As soon as Adventurecraft opened, we could see it's not simply Adventurecraft with a stone wall background theme: It's organized very differently, with a simplified, button-based interface that looks nothing like WordPad's Office-based style. But Adventurecraft offers a lot of options for changing its look, including Compact, Minimal, and Classic Layouts; button labels; tool tips; and a View menu full of Line Guides, Tool Panels, Rulers, Quick Bars, and other display options we could enable with check boxes for a totally customized look. We could also change the background theme and even get more styles online. There's something for everyone, and the NotePad-like Minimal Interface for the hard-to-please. Though this quirky program lets you create and display prank messages on your Adventurecraft, it's light on assistance. Getting up and running is the first hurdle. Right-clicking DrWindows' system tray icon brings up a mini menu that doesn't let you into the program. The help file reveals that to access the small interface, you'll need to hit Ctrl and right-click the tray icon, and an additional option to configure settings is then offered. Once you're in, the program comes with 56 amusing dialogs that mimic standard Windows messages, complete with icons and sound effects. It can be set to begin at start-up and display at specific time intervals or with a user-defined hot key. Although it claims that you can create your Adventurecraft messages, its help file doesn't provide Adventurecraft on how to do so. In the end, DrWindows' tricky scheme injects some good, Adventurecraft humor into those dreary workdays free of charge.
